Sunday and Monday of Holy Week

I’m a member of The Hearth Church, Orlando, and decided on Palm Sunday to share a question a day for the 7 Days of Holy Week with our congregation, a question based on the 7 day daily reading of Marcus Borg’s and John Dominic Crossan’s book entitled The Last Week: A Day-By-Day Account of Jesus’ Final Week in Jerusalem [available to read and listen (Audible free, I believe, with Audible trial) at Amazon.com]. Just today I thought, why not share with others. Below find Palm Sunday’s and yesterday’s (Monday’s) posting and question. Tuesday’s (today’s) posting and question will come later today.

Palm Sunday

Using the Gospel of Mark's daily accounting, authors Borg and Crossan lay out the events, and, significantly, the meaning of these events, of the last 7 days of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection before we see him no more (As Borg and Crossan put it: "What does then have to do with now?") I will post this invite daily for the 7 days, along with a question for you to engage.

So, to begin, my question for this Palm Sunday is this: How does seeing Jesus' entry into Jerusalem (donkey, palms, et. al) as a planned political demonstration change your thinking about what is about to go down in this "last week"?

Monday

What happens on Monday of The Last Week? Take a look at this from Mark 11:12: "On the following day, when they came from Bethany....". Monday. Maybe you are reading or listening to my book suggestion, The Last Week: A Day-by-Day Account of Jesus's Final Week in Jerusalem (Borg and Crossan, 2006, available Amazon.com)....maybe not. But you can at least read Mark 11:12-19.

My question for us today: Why is Jesus so angry? On Monday he kills the fig tree and throws tables around in the Temple. Again, why is Jesus so angry?
